Zhang Xiaoyu was born in 1985, June the 6th, in Heilongjiang Province, northeast China. Her name seems to be her birth one, and for those who are not comfortable with asian names, Xiaoyu is the first name.
She attended high school in Jilin City, at the University of Beihua. In 2006, she graduates in biology, information technology and English. She used to be a member of the Party's Youth League.
In April 2007, she posed for the first time for the photographer Fan Xuehui, webmaster of MET-CN, the Chinese version of MET-ART. She posed for MET-CN until November 2008, but only one photos gallery was impoted by MET-ART.
Zhang Xiaoyu became famous immediately after the publication of her first photos gallery, with pictures posted on many forums, and several websites dedicated to her being created. Controversy erupts over on many Chinese blogs, about the fact that a girl who ultimately done nothing more than to pose nude could gain such a great popularity. In fact, we note that in late 2009, Xiaoyu has the largest number of queries on Baidu (No. 1 search engine in China, ahead of Google), with 370 million queries in 25 months.
In the beginning of January 2009, the Chinese government launched a crackdown on Internet pornography, and the name Zhang Xiaoyu is targeted because of some pictures rather tendentious: forums are "cleaned" and websites are closed. It seems that since 2010, her name is no longer blocked on Baidu.
Currently, Zhang Xiaoyu is still popular in China, although she seems to have stop her activities since 2008.
